MORNING

Tour of Neptune’s Grotto
Enjoy a boat tour this morning to Neptune’s Grotto. The stalactite cave was discovered by local fishermen in the 18th century and is one of the most fascinating natural jewels in the entire Mediterranean basin. The grotto is a veritable geological wonder and extends for about 4 kms, although only a portion is accessible for safety reasons.

AFTERNOON

There will be time in Alghero for lunch before continuing on to the Costa Smeralda by coach, arriving late afternoon. Sardinia is an island with a variety of landscapes and today you will discover the magnificent rugged landscape of the granite interior with its beautiful mountain ranges and green valleys. Sardinia is one of the most geologically ancient bodies of land in Europe, and as such, there are numerous historic features to see on the island. The island is scattered with 7,000 prehistoric dwellings known as ‘nuraghi’ – the Bronze Age towers and settlements, tombe dei giganti (‘giant’s grave’ tombs) and domus de janas (‘fairy house’ tombs) which make this an interesting journey.

EVENING

This evening is at leisure (dinner at own expense).  Sardinia has a distinctive cuisine, influenced by the invaders who came and went and in particular it’s the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Arabs and Spanish who have left their marks on the food.
